A bus trip of 450 miles would have taken 1 hour less if the average speed S for the trip had been greater by 5 miles per hour. What was the average speed S, in miles per hour, for the trip?
(A) 10
(B) 40
(C) 45

i solved the qn ans i got is 45
even i got it... its 45.
solution..
going thru choices..
starting from d middle one..i.e. 45
when d speed will be 45 than it will take 10 hours,
after increasing speed by 5 i.e. 50(45+5), it will take 9 hours.
and hence it takes 1 hour less..
ya the ans is 45
soln...
make an equation...
time taken by bus to travel 450 miles at a speed of s is 450/s and at a speed of s+5 is 450/(s+5)
so the equation is
450/s=450/(s+5)+1
solving this eqn we wil get 45...
simply by going 4 formula. that is s=d/t. so,450/t-450/t-1=5. by solving this we get t=10. put it in original eq.s=450/10. s=45.
45
ans is 45
without solving equation try each number from the answer choices. The answer is 45.

you can solve by any equaton ans is definetely 45 by any mehted which simple & easy to understand the problem
Excuse, that I can not participate now in discussion - it is very occupied. But I will return - I will necessarily write that I think on this question.
