David and Michael charged Mr. Jimenez $3,000 to
remodel his basement. To complete the project,
David worked 4 days alone, Michael worked 1 day
alone, and they worked 10 days together. If they
each received the same amount of money for each
day that they worked, how much of the $3,000 did
David receive?
(A) $1,800
(B) $1,750
(C) $1,680
(D) $1,575
(E) $1,200

Nope, its C. There were 25 separate days worked altogether (David worked 14, Michael worked 11). $3000/25 = $120 per day worked, per person. $120 x 14 days = $1,680

it is a,definatenly

its C....david in all worked for 14 days an micheal for 11 days.
so davids share is= (14/25)* 3000 = 1680

Logically the number of days is 4+1 +10 ie 15 days.So Charge incurred per day = 3000/15=200$

David's charge = 4*200+10*100=1800$
answer is A

This is the rite ans. no alternate logics can be applied.

They reciever equal amount for each day they worked
if we calculate for David he worked
10+4=14 days
Micheal worked 10+1=11 days
so they charged 3000$ for 25 days of work
so for single day they charged 3000/25= 120$
David got = 120*14 = 1680
so Answer iz C

c

"C" Definately!!!

it must be c !!
because though they worked together for 10 days ..they got the same payment and separately..so,devid will be paid for 14 days alone...and it will be$1,680

it must be c let x be the wage for a day.....then david worked for 14 days and michael worked fro 11 days total days 25x=3000.......... x=120 then david worked 14 days i.e., 14*120=1680 was paid for david

have fun

definitely its c....n siddharth dude ..its rightly stated by some candidates ......If they
each received the same amount of money for each
day that they worked............i.e. total 25 days ka wrk kk

It has to be C. Because each one received the same amount of money for each day of work no matter he was working alone or not so we divide the money (3000) by the total number of days worked (14+11=25) to get the daily wage which is 120. Then we multiply 120 by the number of days each one worked so Dave got 1680 and Miche got 1320 so the sum is still 3000.

Conclusion: Answer is C.

the answer is A because they worked for 10 days together
so we have to consider 10 only once
4+1+10 =15 is correct
=> 3000/15=200
4*200=800
+
10*(200/2)=1000
=1800 ans

if we take 11+14 then the mistake is the total days they worked for will be 25 which is absurd.
the question indirectly states 15 days only

total no. of days worked=15
money earned per day=200
each one,for combined 10 day work gets 100, and for each day that he worked alone gets 200
hence david gets 1800 i,e
100x10+200x4

Unknown said...

my answer is a.it is because they have both worked for 10 days it is not that david and the other has worked for 10 days each.so the extra number of days is 5 (4+1).
and the given price is 3000.so price payed for each day is 3000/15=200
hance david share is 4*200+10*100=1800

My answer is A. The total number of days it took for David and Michael to complete the job is 15 (4+1+10). They worked TOGETHER for 10 days, so this should not be counted twice.

If they charged 3,000 for the whole job, the rate would be 200 per day (3,000/15). Now, David worked alone for 4 days (800) and Michael worked alone for 1 day (200), so they each got 800 and 200 respectively for working alone. Now, since they worked together for 10 more days, the rate of 200 a day will be divided between them which means each will get 1,000 more (200x10 = 2,000/2 = 1,000). So if David got 800 (4 days work alone) and 1,000 (10 days work together with Michael), then he got 1,800 in all.

D-4DAYS
M-1DAY

D&M-10DAYS
TOTAL NO.OF DAVID WORKING DAYS=10+4
TOTAL NO. OF MICHAEL WORKING DAYS =10+1DAY
PER DAY WAGES=D(10DAYS+4)+M(10+1)
=14+11=25
PER DAY WAGES=3000/25=$120
SO THE AMOUNT DAVID RECEIVED=14X120=$1680
