GRE QUESTION ON DEMAND

A gardener wishes to plant 5 bushes in a straight row.
Each bush has flowers of a different solid color
(white, yellow, pink red, and purple). How many
ways can the bushes be arranged so that the middle bush is the one with red flowers?
(A) 24
(B) 30
(C) 60
(D) 96
(E) 120

  2. 24 is the ans... since middle one is fixed we can arrange other 4 in 4! factorial ways

  5. i am a bit confuse now.....
    is the combination
    Pink Purple Red Yellow White
    equal to
    White Yellow Red Purple Pink
    i guess when you say Red is in the middle then relative to Red these combinations are equal.
    so it should be 24 / 2 == 12 :P :P

  7. ans is 4c2 * 2! bcoz
    In given 5 places red is for middle and the first two places can be arranged with 4 flowers in 4c2 ways and the remaining last tow places with remaining two flowers in 2! ways therefore ans is 12 ways

  8. a 24 is correct 4!=24 also one thing is possible 4!*4!*4!*4!*4!=120
