ReplyDeletecuz the distance 5 mile is da hypotenous distance when u depict the question in the form of a right triangle... x is 1mile from collision point...therefore 1^2+2^2=5... so y is 2mile apart from the collision point...
d is the answer , first read the question carefully.

now,the distance between point of impact n ship y is x.
the option tat ssatisfys this condition of pythagoras theorem
5^2=(x-1)^2+x^2.
there fore option d satisfys this equation.
