"QUESTION ON DEMAND"

In a legislative body of 200 people, the number of Democrats is 50 less than 4 times the
number of Republicans. If one fifth of the legislators are neither Republican nor Democrat,
how many of the legislators are Republicans?

    let X=number of republican
    Y=number of democrats
    since 1/5th of the members out of 200 are neither Republican nor Democrat
    therefore excluding them the total number of democrats and republican is
    X+Y=160
    according to the question
    Y=4X-50
    =>160-X=4X-50
    =>5X=210
    therefore number of republicans are 42
