"MATH PROBLEM OF THE DAY"
Steve has $5.25 in nickels and dimes. If he has 15 more dimes than nickels, how many nickels does he have? (A) 20 (B) 25 (C) 27 (D) 30 (E) 33
answer is 25 as 1 dimes=10cents and 1nickel =5cents 1$=100cents according to the question by conversion of nickel and dime to dollar we get X/20 + Y/10=5.25(X indicates the number of nickels and Y nob of dimes).......(i) again Y=X+15 therefore X+2Y/20=5.25(from i) =>X+2X+30=105 =>3X=75 =>X=25 number of nickel is 25
answer is 25
ReplyDeleteas 1 dimes=10cents
and 1nickel =5cents
1$=100cents
according to the question
by conversion of nickel and dime to dollar we get
X/20 + Y/10=5.25(X indicates the number of nickels and Y nob of dimes).......(i)
again
Y=X+15
therefore
X+2Y/20=5.25(from i)
=>X+2X+30=105
=>3X=75
=>X=25
number of nickel is 25
