"GRE MATH PROBLEM OF THE DAY"
Two years ago, Lovely was three times as old as Susie. Today he is twice as old as Susie. How old is Lovely today? A. 2 B. 4 C. 6 D. 8 E. Can not be determined based on the information given.
In yr1, If Lovely’s age is (3x), Susie’s age is (x). In yr1 + 2, if Lovely’s age is (2y), Susie’s age is (y) From these two statements, two equations come come: (3x + 2 = 2y) and (x + 2 = y). Solve these, x = 2 and y = 4. Since Lovely’s today’s age is (2y). Answer would be 8 yrs old.
