GRE QUESTION ON DEMAND
200 gms of a solution was10% sugar by weight. 500gms were replaced by a second solution resulting in a solution that was 16% sugar by weight. The second solution is what percent sugar by weight? A)34% B)24% C)22% D)18% E)8.5%
34%
ReplyDeletepls explain
ReplyDelete22%
ReplyDeletecan anyone explain the question?? 500gms of wat am nt getting... the solution is originally 200gms rite??
ReplyDeleteThe answer is 18%
ReplyDelete2/7 (.1) + 5/7 (X) = .16
then solve
why divide 2 and 5 by 7
ReplyDelete((2/2+5)*(.1))+((5/2+5)*X)=.16
ReplyDeleteWhich gives the solution as 18%
Its 22 - c)
ReplyDeleteIts a solution so consider the solution to contain 1000gms of which sugar is 10%.
Now we are taking 500gms out of it and mixing it up with x% sugar solution so that the total sugar% is 16%.
y% req to bring 10% to 16& = 16 - 10 = 6
x% = 16 + y = 22 %
d)18
ReplyDeleteoriginal sum(% difference in weaker solution and new solution)=new sum(% difference new solution and weaker solution)
200(16-10)=500(x-16)
1200=500x-9200
x=18.4% or 18%
which one is correct, c) or d)
ReplyDeleteQuestion is not '200', but '2000'.
ReplyDeleteSolution is below
(2000-500)*0.1 + 500*x = 2000*0.16
x = 0.34
So answer is 34%
