"ALGEBRA QUESTION OF THE DAY"

For what values of 'm' is y = 0, if y = x2 + (2m + 1)x + m2 - 1? x is a real number.

(1) m -2
(2) m < 0
(3) m = 0
(4) m -1.25

  1. i think it cannot b possible bcoz there is a term x2 which does not have any coeff in terms of m

since, this is a objective question so,need not to solve in detail
for m<0 arbitraly a small value is chosen so,that max. term become 0.let,m=-1'
    then,eqn.will be y=x2-x=x(x-1)=0 or 1 i.e y=0
there are more method for this if interested contact me.

    hence, righat ans. is m<0
