"GRE GEOMETRY QUESTION OF THE DAY"

The perimeter of an isosceles triangle ABC is 40 and the lenght of side BC is 12.

COLUMN A:: the lenght of side AB.
COLUMN B:: 14

(A) if quantity in column A is greater.
(B) if quantity in column B is greater.
(C) if the two quantities are equal.
(D) if the relationship cannot be determined from the information given.

    ans is (d)
    given that BC=12...so the other two sides must be of lenghts 16,12 or 14,14

    no its (c)... its an isosceles triangle.. so both ab and ac equal 14....

    BC=12 given
    so AB can either be 12, 14, or 16

    the triangle is iso
    considering BC as the side being equal to any other side ,its not possible to make a tria
    so AB=AC making each equal to 14.

    its isoceles triangle so two sides shold be equal so
    when 40-12=28 let the other two sides should be 14 and 14 as they should be equal??or

    let two sides be 12 and 12 so remaining side has 40-(12+12)=16 ..so answer is 4..as there is no clarity in the question!!
